The 2007 - 2008 Somerset High School
"Blue Raider" Marching Band Proudly Presents...

The 2008-2009 Somerset High School “Blue Raider” Marching Band is led by Senior Drum Majors Emily Domingue, Junior Drum Major Quentin Kroll, Senior Color Guard Captains Cassidy Cousineau & Jamie Jancarik, Junior Color Guard Captain Lauren Soares as well as Percussion Captains Thomas Patten & Michael Tremblay and Marching Band President Christopher Ross. A community sponsored organization; the Blue Raiders have proudly marched down the Main Street of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center and was the first high school marching band to march at MGM Studios.

In addition to the band’s woodwind and brass sections, the band includes battery and pit percussion sections as well as the color guard, including dancers, majorettes and flags. After tryouts in the spring, the band practices throughout the summer on a weekly basis in preparation for the Fall Season. All members are helped financially by the Music Department and the Somerset Friends of Music to attend additional summer camps to further develop their skills in the marching arts.

Musicians are auditioned for placement after participation in the town’s very active music program that begins in kindergarten and continues through grade 12. Instrumental lessons are provided in the schools for one to two years with recommendations for further private study. Most band members study privately.

Many of Somerset’s music groups perform for local civic organizations and at other schools. Somerset has hosted six Southeast District Festivals involving hundreds of students. Many guest artists have performed in Somerset including: Maynard Ferguson, Greg Abate, David Martins, Walter Chestnut, Fred Budda, Ritchee Price, James Christiansen and The Stan Kenton Band.

The Coordinator of Fine and Performing Arts for the Somerset Public School System is Lori Anderson. Somerset High School’s Director of Bands, David M. Marshall is assisted by Visual Designer and Coordinator Lennie Machado, Color Guard Director Michelle Courchaine, Percussion Director & Arranger Tim Sepe, Color Guard Assistant Instructor Kaitlin Donais and Percussion Assistant Instructor Matt Cavanaugh.

This year’s field show features selections from the 2005 motion picture remake of “King Kong” including the songs “King Kong Opener”, “Beautiful” and “King Kong Finale”. This season, in addition to football game halftime performances and Grand Day festivities, the band will also performed their field show at the Cranston East High School RI and MA Super Saturday USSBA Marching Band Show on September 27, New Bedford High School Massachusetts Super Saturday USSBA Marching Band Show on October 11, East Bridgewater High School NESBA Marching Band Show on October 25, NESBA Championship Marching Band Finals at Quincy Veterans Stadium on November 2 and the USSBA Northern States Championships at J.
